What is RSVP?

In September 1973, ACTION, the federal agency for volunteer programs, authorized the establishment of the Orange County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). ACTION was combined with the Commission on National and Community Service in 1993 to form the Corporation for National & Community Service.

RSVP enables seniors 55 years and better to use their energy, creativity and experience to enrich the lives of others in their community.

As an RSVP member, you’ll be one of 500,000 nationwide assisting with over 750 rewarding projects – including 34 in Florida. RSVP volunteers donate over 72 million hours of service yearly to 43,000 local organizations.

What do you need to get started? Just a desire to help. Anyone 55 or better may join RSVP. There are no income, education, or work experience requirements. There are no membership fees.

Tell us what you’d like to do and when you’re available. Let us find just the right place where you can make a real contribution.

Join RSVP today. It feels good to volunteer.

What Do I Need To Know?

The rules are very simple.

You’ll report to your assignment on a regular basis and perform the duties as requested. If for some reason you can’t be there, please notify the volunteer coordinator where you work as soon as possible.

It’s important that you keep your RSVP timesheets up to date and turn them in by the fifth day of each month. They’re vital to the success of our program, because they’re the only way we have of measuring your service. They allow us to keep track of the number of volunteers serving at each agency and the hours they contribute. And, those total numbers help us gain community support for the concept of senior volunteering.

You benefit from the timesheets, too. An accurate record of your work helps you to remain qualified for free insurance.

As an active RSVP volunteer, you’re covered at no cost by supplemental accident and excess automobile liability insurance. And, you receive $1 million per occurrence protection for a personal injury or property damage liability claim arising from the performance of your volunteer duties. You’re protected on the way from your home to your work location, at the job, and from the job back to your home.
